Tracy McGrady Takes on Advisory Role at Wagner College

Tracy McGrady, a legend with the Houston Rockets, is set to take on a new role in college basketball. He will be a strategic advisor for the Wagner College men’s basketball team.

McGrady’s Responsibilities at Wagner

McGrady’s responsibilities will include spear-heading the school’s basketball operations, recruiting, and NIL efforts. This is part of a trend of star-level players taking on front office roles to lead NIL operations for universities.

His son, Laymen, committed to Wagner College late last month. Laymen McGrady will be transferring from Oral Roberts, where he spent a year as a redshirt.

McGrady’s Recent Media Roles

Since retiring from the NBA, McGrady has been involved in various media ventures. He has become a regular on podcasts and has appeared on ESPN’s First Take.

McGrady also helped pioneer the Ones Basketball League. This league was designed to spotlight one-on-one basketball and give players a platform.

Return to NBA Broadcasting

McGrady recently joined NBC Sports, marking their return to NBA broadcasting. He joined a cast including Vince Carter and Carmelo Anthony as studio analysts.

They operate on NBC’s pre-game, mid-game and post-game shows. Maria Taylor hosts the shows which are also streamed on Peacock.

McGrady made three All-Star teams and three All-NBA teams during his time with the Rockets. He also improved as a playmaker alongside Yao Ming.

McGrady’s Time with the Rockets

McGrady was acquired by the Houston Rockets in a trade. He was just 25 years old at the time and had made four consecutive All-NBA teams.

He had also made two All-NBA First Teams in two of the previous three seasons. However, the trade did not result in a title, as McGrady and Yao Ming both battled injuries.

McGrady’s move to Wagner College continues the trend of former star players taking on roles within university athletic programmes.
