The Red Sox are back at Fenway Park to start a four-game series with the Tigers. This follows a day off after a six-game road trip.
The Sox are coming off a 9-5 victory over the Twins, which allowed them to avoid a sweep and finish their road trip at 3-3. Meanwhile, the Detroit team has won six in a row, including Thursday’s 10-9 walk-off win over the Royals. That was Detroit’s third-straight victory by one run.
Pitching Matchups for the Series Opener
Ranger Suarez is slated to start the opener for the Sox. In his last outing, the lefthander allowed just three hits and struck out six in six shutout innings against the Cardinals, contributing to a 7-1 victory at St. Louis.
Manager Alex Cora said, “He moved the ball around. It seems like his arm was a lot quicker than the first two (starts). It tells me he feels better.”
Detroit will counter with righthander Casey Mize. Mize earned his first win of the season last Saturday, pitching 5⅔ innings and allowing one run in a victory over the Miami Marlins.
