Marcos Senesi to Leave Bournemouth as Contract Expires

Marcos Senesi is set to depart Bournemouth when his contract concludes at the end of the season.

The Argentina defender, who joined Bournemouth from Feyenoord in 2022, will be available as a free agent this summer.

Senesi’s Departure and Bournemouth’s European Hopes

Senesi, now 29, has been free to negotiate with European clubs regarding a free transfer since 1 January. He is also considering opportunities to remain in the Premier League.

Bournemouth extended a new contract offer to the defender. However, he will be leaving Vitality Stadium at the end of the season, with manager Andoni Iraola also departing.

Senesi reflected on his time with the Cherries, saying, “I’m proud of everything we achieved over the last four years. I will look back at my time here with fond memories.” He added, “For now, there are still two big games left of the season and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.”

Bournemouth are currently sixth in the Premier League. Sixth would be Bournemouth’s highest Premier League finish, and they need two more points to achieve a record points tally.

The Cherries are on course for European qualification – with the Europa League or Conference League most likely – but still have hopes of reaching the Champions League.

Potential Destinations for the Argentina Defender

The destination for Senesi remains uncertain. While he has reportedly engaged in discussions with several clubs, he is carefully evaluating his next move.

Sources at Chelsea have downplayed any potential move for him this summer. Tottenham, Barcelona and Juventus have also been linked.

Turning 29, this could be the last major contract of Senesi’s career.

  • Senesi has made only his second and third appearances for Argentina during this campaign.

Contractual Demands Key to Senesi’s Future

His demands for substantial personal terms saw him leave Bournemouth after three offers, and they will be key for any club looking to sign him.

That will be central to any deal for Senesi, potentially saving on a transfer fee but having to offer a competitive salary.

Senesi’s stock has never been higher.

There are still two big games left of the season.
