Madison Keys says she is loving the balmy temperatures in Paris. She is set to face Victoria Mboko in the next round at Roland-Garros.
Keys relishing the conditions
Madison Keys is thriving in the heat at Roland-Garros. She said she loves the conditions. She added that she can’t remember a Roland-Garros where it was this hot for this many days.
Keys believes the ball moves through the court really quickly in these conditions. She has moved past her first two opponents, losing only 11 games.
Mboko’s rising star
Victoria Mboko is only in her second year on the WTA Tour. She has won two titles last year and reached three finals this year. At only 19, she is already the world No.9.
Mboko has just started working with Wim Fissette. The Belgian coach has trained a string of Grand Slam champions, and Mboko feels their relationship has got off to a flying start.
Mboko said Fissette is working with her strengths. She added that they are trying to make her better and use her strengths to her advantage. Mboko feels it has given her a lot of confidence on the court.
Serena’s support
Serena Williams is following Victoria Mboko’s progress. Mboko said that she and Serena have stayed in touch, which is really nice. She added that she really looks up to Serena.
Serena Williams is expected to make her comeback at Queen’s Club in London the week after next. Mboko is reportedly playing doubles with her there.
Previous meeting
Mboko and Keys have met once before. Mboko won in three sets in Adelaide in January.
Fissette is giving Mboko the confidence to attack.
Keys is the No.19, while Mboko is the No.9. Keys won the Australian Open title last year and was a runner-up at the US Open in 2017.
