LA Galaxy Face Toluca Challenge in Champions Cup Quarterfinal

LA Galaxy are looking to overturn a 4-2 deficit against Toluca FC in the second leg of their Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinal series. The match takes place at Dignity Health Sports Park.

The winner of the aggregate score will advance to the semifinals. They will face either LAFC or Cruz Azul.

Galaxy’s Hopeful Home Advantage

The Galaxy have two away goals to their name. Gabriel Pec and Marco Reus both scored last week at Estadio Nemesio Díez. These goals could prove vital if the aggregate score ends in a draw.

LA will be buoyed by their recent form. Maya Yoshida and Erik Thommy scored in a 2-1 win at Austin FC.

Toluca’s Commanding Lead

Toluca secured a comfortable lead in the first leg. A Paulinho hat trick contributed to their 4-2 victory.

Nicolás Castro opened the scoring for Toluca. Paulinho then took over with his trio of goals.

Champions Cup Ambitions

Four MLS clubs remain in the competition. A spot in the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2026 FIFA Intercontinental Cup is up for grabs.

The single-match CCC final is scheduled for May 30.

Toluca are two-time CCC winners. Their last appearance in the final was in 2014.

The Galaxy face a tough challenge to turn the series around. They will be hoping their home fans can inspire them.
