Kyle Joseph’s Middlesbrough Move Back On After Hull City Agreement

Striker Kyle Joseph’s proposed transfer to Middlesbrough is once again active and could see confirmation within the coming 24 hours, as Hull City has reportedly agreed to sell the player. This development follows Hull’s victory over Middlesbrough in the Championship play-off final held back in May.

Initial Deal Collapsed Amid FFP Concerns

The forward had previously been close to a £5m switch to Teesside at the close of June. At that time, Hull City was actively seeking to generate funds to circumvent a potential Financial Fair Play (FFP) penalty.

However, the initial agreement between City and Middlesbrough collapsed at the last possible moment. In response, the Tigers instead focused on other player sales, successfully raising around £9m through the departures of Ivor Pandur, Akin Famewo, and young talent Aidon Shehu. These transactions were crucial in ensuring the club would not incur any FFP sanctions.

Talks Reignited for Four-Year Deal

Following the unexpected collapse of the original transfer, discussions between the two Championship clubs have since been reignited. It is now understood that a definitive deal is on the cusp of being officially confirmed by both Hull City and Middlesbrough.

Joseph is anticipated to sign an initial four-year contract upon his arrival at the Riverside Stadium.

Injury Status and Key Contributions Last Season

The former Blackpool forward remains sidelined, having undergone ankle surgery prior to the play-off final. He sustained this ankle problem during the semi-final second leg victory against Millwall, which meant he was on crutches during the Wembley final itself.

Despite his current absence, Joseph is reportedly nearing a return to training. This return is currently expected towards the close of the current month, or potentially in early next month.

During the previous season, Joseph emerged as one of Hull City’s key performers. He contributed significantly with seven Championship goals and also provided five assists, playing a vital role in helping the Tigers secure a coveted play-off position. Hull then went on to defeat Boro in the play-off final at Wembley.

The impending move sees Joseph join the club Hull City overcame in the Championship play-off final.
