Gio Urshela Retires After 10 MLB Seasons

Gio Urshela has announced his retirement from baseball after 10 seasons in Major League Baseball. The former Yankees infielder shared the news on his Instagram page, accompanied by the message “Siempre Agradecido,” or “Forever Grateful.” Urshela is retiring at 34 years old.

Urshela’s Time with the Yankees

Urshela played for the Yankees from 2019 through the 2021 season. Over 291 games, he produced 6.4 bWAR. He recorded 296 hits, 63 doubles, 41 homers, and 153 RBIs, along with a .292 average and an .815 OPS.

Urshela also posted a .636 OPS in 17 postseason games for the Yankees. This included two homers and a .740 OPS in 2019. He became a fan favourite during his time with the team.

MLB Career Overview

Urshela’s MLB career began in 2015 with the Cleveland Guardians, where he played for two seasons. He then had a one-year stint with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2018. Following his time with the Yankees, Urshela played a season with the Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Angels, Detroit Tigers, Atlanta Braves and a final year with the Athletics in 2025.
