The FIFA World Cup final is set to feature a Super Bowl-style halftime show with Madonna, Shakira and BTS headlining the event.
For the first time, the final will include a concert at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19.
A Concert for Education
FIFA announced that the halftime show would support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. The fund aims to raise $100 million to help children access education and soccer.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino stated that it would bring together “music and football on the biggest stage in sport for a very special cause.”
Infantino added on Instagram, “Every child should have the opportunity to dream, and together we can help make that possible.”
Halftime Show Details
Coldplay’s Chris Martin will curate the show.
The Super Bowl is known for its halftime show, which has featured stars such as Bad Bunny, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Madonna, Prince, Bruce Springsteen and Rhianna.
While halftime shows are not as common in football, the Champions League final usually includes a pre-match concert. The Killers are set to headline this year’s game between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal in Budapest.
FIFA’s Vision
FIFA describes its halftime show as “a singular moment at the intersection of sport, culture and purpose, broadcast live around the world.”
The World Cup is co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. The tournament runs through June and July.
