Anthony Edwards’ NBA Award Eligibility Bid Rejected

Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves has had his request for award eligibility turned down by the NBA. The announcement comes just before the Timberwolves are set to face the Denver Nuggets in Game 1 of the NBA Playoffs on Saturday afternoon.

Edwards’ Eligibility Challenge Fails

Edwards was one of three NBA stars who filed an exception to the NBA’s 65-game minimum rule for awards eligibility. The NBA and NBPA jointly released a statement confirming that Luka Doncic of the Los Angeles Lakers and Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons were approved. Edwards’ challenge, however, was denied.

According to the press release, Edwards, who played in 60 qualified games, sought award eligibility through an extraordinary circumstances challenge under the CBA. An independent arbitrator denied the request.

As a result, Edwards is ineligible for annual awards for the 2025-2026 NBA regular season.

Fuel for the Playoffs?

Edwards is known as one of the NBA’s most outspoken young competitors. Now, he’ll miss all seasonal honours with his request denied.

This season, Edwards appeared in 61 games for the Timberwolves. He averaged 28.8 points per game, shooting 48.9% from the field and 39.9% from three. Edwards also averaged 5.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

The Timberwolves finished the season with a 49-33 record, placing sixth in the Western Conference.
