Thousands of children have taken part in the TCS Mini London Marathon.
The annual event, which is open to children from Reception age to Year 12, saw 20,000 runners participate on Saturday as part of the London Marathon weekend.
A Mile on The Mall
The event started at Horse Guards Parade and finished on The Mall.
Children had the option to jog, walk or wheel either a mile or 1.6-mile distance.
Alicia, from south London, said she was “very excited” to run the Mini Marathon and had been training in her local parks. She added she was also feeling a bit nervous, because it was her first time doing it. Alicia said she had quite a few friends who were running it with her.
Friends Eddie and Harry, from Enfield, said they would try to run the race together. Harry added he was feeling good and thought he would get a good time. He said that they both love running in school.
Another runner, Cameron, said he loved trying to beat his own records when competing.
Schools Join the Excitement
There were 600 London schools taking part in the race.
Susie, from Surrey, said she was excited to take part, adding: “I love running and getting outside so I am really happy.”
Susie’s headteacher, Lesley Bailey, said she felt “so lucky” her pupils could take part in the children’s marathon. She added that it was their second year of competing, and the children were so excited and there was such a buzz around the school community. Bailey stated that children’s physical wellbeing is so important.
Training and Wellbeing
Alicia, who has asthma, said she trained for the race in her local parks.
Lesley Bailey noted the importance of children’s physical wellbeing.
