Diamondbacks Designate Pavin Smith for Assignment Amid Roster Changes

The Diamondbacks have designated Pavin Smith for assignment, a move made to clear a roster spot. This decision facilitates the return of Ryan Waldschmidt to the major league squad, who was recalled from Triple-A Reno.

Waldschmidt’s Recall and Recent Performance

Waldschmidt’s return marks his second stint in the big leagues this season, having previously been optioned on June 15. The 23-year-old’s recent form in Triple-A Reno saw him slug just .192/.250/.269 over his last 15 games. During this period, he recorded no home runs and registered only one RBI.

Lawlar’s Absence Opens Door

The recall of Waldschmidt comes as Jordan Lawlar has been placed on the 10-day injured list. Lawlar is dealing with a hamstring issue, and his absence is projected to last between four to six weeks. Consequently, Waldschmidt is expected to see significant action in center field for the Diamondbacks.

Arizona DFA’d Pavin Smith in order to make room on the active roster for Ryan Waldschmidt.
