Boston Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras is likely to return to the lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Detroit Tigers. Red Sox manager Alex Cora made the announcement on Wednesday. This follows a back injury sustained in Tuesday’s game against the Minnesota Twins.
Contreras was removed from Tuesday’s contest in the fifth inning due to the ailment. He also missed the team’s 9-5 victory over the Twins on Wednesday.
Contreras’ Strong Start
The 33-year-old veteran has made a strong start to his Red Sox career. He entered Friday with a team-high 11 walks. Contreras is also tied for the most on the team with three home runs.
