Stan Wawrinka (ATP 125) is set to compete against Italian Raul Brancaccio (ATP 240) in the opening round of the Geneva Open on Monday at 6 pm.
The change occurred after his initially scheduled opponent, world number 35 Alejandro Tabilo, withdrew on Sunday.
Brancaccio Enters as Lucky Loser
Raul Brancaccio, Wawrinka’s new opponent, was initially knocked out in the second qualifying round against Frenchman Clément Tabur (ATP 168) by a score of 6:0, 2:6, 2:6. He then gained entry into the main draw as a lucky loser.
Alejandro Tabilo, the original opponent, would have presented a tougher challenge. In February, Tabilo reached the final of the ATP 500 tournament in Rio de Janeiro on clay.
Brancaccio’s Career Overview
Raul Brancaccio’s highest ranking was 121st in 2023. The 29-year-old has only participated in one main draw match at an ATP tournament, which was in Parma in May 2021. However, he secured a win at the Challenger tournament in Menorca last month.
Swiss Representation
Stan Wawrinka is the only Swiss player featured in the main draw at the Parc des Eaux-Vives.
Kilian Feldbausch (ATP 355) from Geneva, aged 20, was defeated by American Nihesh Basavareddy (ATP 154) in the 2nd round of qualifying with a score of 3:6, 2:6. Feldbausch had received a wild card for the qualifying rounds.
Wawrinka will now prepare to face Brancaccio in the opening round.
