Kristoffer Velde Returns to Miami with Portland Timbers

Kristoffer Velde’s return to Miami with the Portland Timbers is a homecoming for the Norwegian. Velde has roots in Miami, where he lived when he was younger.

Velde’s Miami Connection

Velde’s parents worked for Royal Caribbean, leading to his early childhood in Miami. “My dad and my mother, they both worked for Royal Caribbean. So we were actually living in Miami when I was younger,” Velde explained. His parents will be attending the game.

Facing Messi and Inter Miami

The match against Inter Miami CF offers a brighter spotlight for the Portland Timbers. The Lionel Messi-led squad wears Royal Caribbean’s logo on their chests. The defending champs serve as a measuring stick for the rest of MLS.

Velde views the game as a significant challenge. “Huge game,” Velde added. “We will play against the best soccer player throughout the history of the game. So it will be an interesting game, in their home stadium, new stadium, nice atmosphere.”

Portland are currently in 12th place in the Western Conference with a record of 4 wins, 6 losses, and 2 draws. They are yet to win consecutive matches this season.

Portland’s Team Morale

Despite inconsistent results, Velde believes the team’s morale remains strong. “The team in general, even though we had some tough results and bad moments during this season so far, I think the mood has always been good. We have a good morale in the team, and we keep fighting and we keep working on it.”

Velde’s personality is a key part of his game, and the team’s dynamic. “We have different types of personalities in this team. I think I’m probably the most loud one,” Velde said. “You always need a clown. You always need a guy which does some stupid s–t sometimes.”

Velde’s Explosive Style

Portland paid a reported $5 million to acquire Velde. They sought not only his attacking skills but also his personality. With a high work rate and intensity, Velde has notched 6 goals and 5 assists since joining the club. He also has the same number of yellow cards as goals, reflective of his approach to the sport.

The Sunday night game against Inter Miami offers Velde a chance to shine in a familiar place.
