Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been breaking records over the past year and expectations are high as he approaches his second IPL season. The 15-year-old scored 252 runs in seven matches last season, including a century and a fifty, at a strike rate of 206.56. He showed glimpses last season that he can hang with the best in the IPL.
Sooryavanshi’s Potential to Break Gayle’s Highest Score
Chris Gayle holds the record for the highest individual score in the IPL with 175 not out off 66 deliveries. He achieved this against Pune Warriors in 2013, hitting 13 fours and 17 sixes. Many believe this record could stand the test of time.
However, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has a habit of scoring big when he gets going. His highest score in Youth T20s is 144 off 42 balls. He also scored 175 off 80 balls in the final of the 2026 Under-19 World Cup. Furthermore, he smashed 190 off 84 balls in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Challenging the Record for Most Sixes in an Innings
Gayle also holds the record for the most sixes in an innings, with 17. But if there is someone who can eclipse Gayle, it is Sooryavanshi.
Sooryavanshi hit 15 sixes during his 144-run knock in the Youth T20 game, 15 in the Under-19 World Cup final, and 15 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. It should be a fair bet, then, that Sooryavanshi can go three better this IPL.
Could Sooryavanshi Hit the Most Sixes in an IPL Season?
The record for the most sixes in an IPL season is also held by Gayle, who hit 59 sixes in 2012. Andre Russell managed 52 for KKR in 2019.
With Sooryavanshi’s talent for hitting sixes, he could challenge this record as well.
The jury is still out on whether he can overcome the second-season blues, with teams better prepared to tackle his savagery with the bat. Sooryavanshi is not one to back down or get bogged down.
