UConn Trounce Georgetown in Big East Tournament Quarterfinal

UConn secured an 84-39 victory over Georgetown in the Big East tournament quarterfinal. The win extends UConn’s winning streak to 48 games.

Huskies Dominate the First Half

Serah Williams led UConn with 14 points, 12 of which came in the first half. Sarah Strong contributed 11 points, while Azzi Fudd added 10 points. KK Arnold scored 12 points, and Kayleigh Heckel had eight points for UConn.

Georgetown scored the first four points of the game. However, Williams responded with eight points during a 10-0 run, giving the Huskies a lead they maintained throughout the game. Georgetown struggled offensively, enduring a nearly seven-minute scoring drought in the second quarter. UConn capitalised on this, scoring 13 consecutive points to establish a 47-18 lead at halftime.

Strong Joins Elite UConn Company

Strong achieved a milestone, joining an elite group of UConn women’s players with 100 steals in a season. The other players to reach this mark are Nykesha Sales, Jennifer Rizzotti, Rita Williams, Moriah Jefferson, and Gabby Williams.

Georgetown’s Offensive Struggles

Laila Jewett scored nine points for Georgetown. The Hoyas struggled to find their rhythm, particularly in the third quarter when they managed just one field goal. Georgetown has now lost to UConn in the Big East tournament for the fourth time in the past five seasons.

UConn Advances to Semifinals

UConn will face Creighton in the Big East semifinals.
