Tyson Fury Eyes August Fight Before Anthony Joshua Showdown

Tyson Fury is planning to have a fight in August before facing Anthony Joshua. Fury and Joshua officially signed to fight one another in April, with Wembley Stadium in the UK a likely venue in October or November. Joshua still has a warm-up fight scheduled against Kristian Prenga on July 25.

Fury’s Fight Plans

Fury outlined his intentions, stating he aims for three fights this year. “So, my fight plan this year is three fights,” Fury said on FurociTV. “So it will be April, August, and whenever the big fight’s announced – either October, November.”

Fury added that the opponent for the August fight is secondary to him. “We haven’t got an opponent yet, but again: it’s never about the opponent; it’s just about me versus me, always.” He views the fight as a way to prepare for the Joshua bout. “It’s just the run-out for me, like, just to get sharper for the big one.”

Fury last fought in April against Arslanbek Makhmudov, securing a unanimous decision victory. That fight was his first since back-to-back losses against Oleksandr Usyk in 2024.

Warren Backs Fury’s Decision

Frank Warren, Fury’s promoter, shares Fury’s perspective. Warren told Sky Sports that Fury will fight before facing Joshua. “He will fight [before facing Joshua],” Warren said. “He wants to fight, he’s made that very clear.”

Warren explained the reasoning behind the decision. “He doesn’t want to be back in the ring by November, which I think will be a gap of about seven or eight months,” Warren explained. “He wants to fight, he doesn’t want to be rusty again, and he wants to get in there.”

Warren also dismissed rumors of a potential fight against Andy Ruiz. “It won’t be against Andy Ruiz,” Warren clarified.

With Fury keen to avoid ring rust, he is planning to fit in another fight before the anticipated Joshua match.
