Tyler Tanner: Vanderbilt Guard Projected as First-Round NBA Pick

March Madness is underway, giving college stars the chance to solidify their positions for the upcoming NBA draft. The 2026 draft is expected to take place in late June.

Tyler Tanner of Vanderbilt is currently projected to be a first-round selection.

Tanner’s Strengths

It’s rare for a 6-foot sophomore to be projected as a first-round pick, but Tyler Tanner has earned such praise. The All-SEC guard has made meaningful contributions on both ends of the court, despite his size.

He is an efficient scorer, can dunk, block shots, and steal the ball. Tanner is also a serviceable floor general, capable of earning rotation minutes for a team like the Timberwolves.

Standout Performance Against Ole Miss

Tanner’s performance on March 3 against Ole Miss showcased his abilities. He scored 34 points, shooting 3-of-6 from 3-point range.

He also recorded five rebounds, seven assists, and five steals. It was his second performance with at least 30 points in a 30-day stretch.

USA TODAY’s latest mock draft projects Tanner to go in the first round.
