Tunisia Cleared to Select Rani Khedira for World Cup

Tunisia have received FIFA’s approval to select Rani Khedira for the World Cup in North America.

The 32-year-old Union Berlin midfielder is the younger brother of Sami Khedira, who played on Germany’s 2014 World Cup-winning team. The brothers are eligible for both Germany and Tunisia through their parents.

Khedira’s Eligibility Switch Approved

The Tunisian soccer federation and FIFA made the announcement on Wednesday that Khedira’s application to switch national eligibility had been approved.

The federation marked the occasion by posting a “Welcome Home” message on its Instagram account for Khedira, as he prepares to join the team, known as the Eagles of Carthage.

Tunisia’s World Cup Group

Tunisia find themselves in a World Cup group alongside the Netherlands, Japan and the winner of a European playoffs bracket. That bracket could potentially include Ukraine.

Tunisia’s first two games are in Monterrey, Mexico, before they face the Dutch in Kansas City.
