Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly monitoring Crysencio Summerville’s situation at West Ham, with a view to making a move in the summer. Sources indicate that Spurs could exploit West Ham’s precarious position to secure the 24-year-old’s signature.
Summerville has impressed this season, despite West Ham’s struggles. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side currently sit 18th in the Premier League and face a tough battle to avoid relegation.
Spurs’ Long-Term Interest in Summerville
Tottenham have been long-term admirers of Summerville. They considered a move for the winger during the January transfer window, but a transfer was blocked at the time.
Spurs’ summer transfer plans could see them reignite their interest. Former Irons scout Mick Brown stated earlier this year that West Ham rebuffed Tottenham’s advances for Summerville and had no plans to sell.
Relegation Could Force West Ham’s Hand
West Ham’s stance could change if they are relegated to the Championship. They would likely be unable to turn down approaches should they drop into the Championship, placing a number of interested clubs on alert.
Should West Ham get relegated, it will be to Tottenham’s benefit in the Premier League. They could push to sign Summerville as a result.
“West Ham don’t want to lose Summerville, if they go down, it’ll be a real uphill task to keep hold of him,” it was explained on the Inside Track podcast.
“Tottenham have had a long-term interest in the Dutchman, and I’m sure if they can stay up at the expense of West Ham, they’ll be hoping that they could maybe lure him away.
- West Ham stood firm in their stance that Summerville was not for sale during the mid-season window.
- That could be set to change when the summer window opens.
- They are likely to be forced into sales if they drop into the Championship.
Financial Concerns at West Ham
West Ham could be forced to sell Summerville in the summer due to financial concerns. The Hammers reported over £100million in losses in their recent accounts, meaning they will likely be made to sell regardless of their Premier League status.
The Netherlands international is likely to be high on the list of potential sales given the money that would be involved in any deal to lure him away.
If West Ham suffer relegation, “the vultures will come calling for their top players and Summerville will be one of those players who will be in huge demand.”
