Tottenham Hotspur might be willing to allow midfielder Conor Gallagher to leave the club. This is despite him only signing in the January transfer window.
Gallagher joined in a deal worth around £40m. He was one of Thomas Frank’s final signings.
Gallagher’s Struggles at Tottenham
According to a report, Tottenham could be willing to allow Conor Gallagher to leave the club. He only signed in the January transfer window.
Ex-scout Mick Brown has claimed that De Zerbi and Spurs would be ready to let him leave. Gallagher joined in a deal worth around £40m.
“It hasn’t worked out at all well for Gallagher at Tottenham,” Brown said.
“Sometimes that happens, he’s come into a difficult situation there and for one reason or another he’s struggled to make any real difference.
“Maybe questions should have been asked at Tottenham about why he wasn’t a regular at Atletico Madrid, and why they were willing to let him go. But Conor Gallagher is a player who will always have interest from clubs in the Premier League because of the attributes he has at his disposal.
- Tottenham could look to cash in on him at the end of the season.
- They could admit things haven’t worked out.
- They could then look to get their money back.
“Even if they stay in the Premier League, his performances this season haven’t suggested he has a big role to play in the future, so it might be best to move on.
“As I say, there will be clubs willing to take him away, so it’s definitely a real possibility.”
De Zerbi’s Impact and Gallagher’s Fit
While Frank was keen to strengthen his midfield in the mid-season to move away from a relegation battle, Gallagher always seemed like an odd fit to the squad.
Now that De Zerbi has arrived, Gallagher’s lack of technical quality is clear. His fit into the squad looks even worse.
It’s no surprise that all parties could be looking at potential exit routes, despite it being so soon into his long-term contract.
Tottenham Hotspur are battling against relegation. New manager Roberto De Zerbi is currently struggling to make too much of an impact.
Potential Exit for Gallagher
With a complete overhaul of the squad needed even if they stay in the Premier League, recouping their money on Gallagher and pretending it never happened may be best for everyone involved.
Tottenham fell to defeat against Sunderland in his first game in charge, leaving them two points adrift of safety with six games remaining.
The north London side have been dealing with a number of serious injury issues throughout the entire campaign.
The key Spurs star looks set to leave the club this summer.
