Sudarshan Yellamaraju: 15 Facts About the Rising Golf Star

Sudarshan Yellamaraju is quickly gaining recognition in professional golf. He graduated from the Korn Ferry Tour and will play on the PGA Tour in 2026.

From Winnipeg to the PGA Tour

Yellamaraju’s path to professional golf had some unusual aspects. He was born in Visakhapatnam, India, but his family moved to Winnipeg, Canada, when he was four. He represents Canada in golf.

Largely self-taught, Yellamaraju learned by watching videos of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy on YouTube with his father. He started playing golf at age six at The Golf Dome in Winnipeg, an indoor facility.

He received his first set of clubs at nine. At the same age, he played his first 18-hole round in a tournament, shooting a 101, which remains his only round over 100.

The family relocated to Mississauga, Ontario, when he was 11, and he still plays out of the city.

Amateur Success and Turning Pro

One of Yellamaraju’s significant amateur achievements was winning the Ontario Men’s Amateur at 16. He was the youngest player in the field and birdied the 72nd hole to avoid a playoff.

Unlike many players, Yellamaraju didn’t attend college because of a lack of scholarship money. He turned professional in 2021 at the age of 19.

Professional Career Highlights

Yellamaraju began his professional career on mini tours. He then spent two years on the PGA Tour Canada in 2022 and 2023 before joining the Korn Ferry Tour.

His first professional victory was at the 2025 Bahamas Great Abaco Classic, where he beat Kensei Hirata by five strokes. That win helped him finish 19th on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List, securing his PGA Tour card for the 2026 season.

Coaching and Other Interests

Yellamaraju doesn’t have a swing coach. However, his dad sometimes reviews videos of his swing.

Yellamaraju enjoys other sports, including cricket and hockey. He is also a Manchester United supporter.
