Strasbourg reach European semi-final after Mainz thrashing

Strasbourg have qualified for their first major European competition semi-final after beating Mainz. Having lost the first leg 0-2, RCSA recorded a large victory against an unthreatening Mainz team.

Emegha seals the win

Emegha scored after returning to the team, shortly after a missed penalty. The victory was well-deserved.

Veratschnig received a yellow card for a frustrated action at the end of the game. Sieb also received a yellow card.

Late Mainz pressure

Amiri took a chance in front of the area, but Penders blocked the ball. Penders then taunted his opponents. Strasbourg were positioned as a unit in front of their area during the final minutes.

Mainz had a free kick on the left, but Amiri’s shot was pushed away by Penders. Mainz claimed for a penalty after a potential handball by Barco, but the referee waved play on after VAR analysis.

Barco made a defensive effort to concede a corner. Enciso was replaced by Oyedele.

Strasbourg close out the match

Strasbourg were content to clear the ball. Mainz were taking risks but struggled to come back.

Amiri took a long free kick, but his cross was headed away by Omobamidele. Mainz had possession but struggled to get near Strasbourg’s area. Mwene was replaced by Veratschnig.

Strasbourg will face Rayo Vallecano in the semi-final.
