Sri Lanka Women secured a 4-wicket victory over West Indies Women in the second T20I, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-game series. The match was played in Grenada on Sunday. Captain Chamari Athapaththu delivered an all-round performance for the touring side.
Athapaththu Leads Sri Lanka’s Chase
Chasing a target of 101, Sri Lanka Women reached the finish line with 11 balls to spare, losing 6 wickets in the process. Opener Chamari Athapaththu spearheaded the chase with a 26-ball 39, which included seven fours and a six.
Despite losing wickets in the middle order, Sri Lanka Women were able to get across the line. Crucial contributions from Vishmi Gunaratne (10) and Kavisha Dilhari (18 no) helped them reach the target.
West Indies Women Bowled Out
Having won the toss, Sri Lanka Women inserted their hosts. The West Indies Women were bowled out for 101 in their allotted 20 overs. The pace duo of Malki Madara (3-16) and Nilakshika Silva (3-20) were the pick of the bowlers.
Hayley Matthews top scored for the West Indies Women with 28. However, the rest of the team found it difficult to keep the Lankan bowlers at bay, losing wickets at regular intervals.
Series Opener Affected by Weather
The West Indies Women were bundled out for 49 in the series opener on Saturday. The weather intervened, forcing the umpires to call off the game and saving their blushes.
