San Antonio Spurs’ Playoff Entrance Makes a Statement

The San Antonio Spurs kicked off their playoff run in matching black suits. The entire Spurs roster arrived at the Frost Bank Center for their first-round game against the Portland Trail Blazers in the suits.

Ever since the pandemic, the NBA has largely grown more casual. This made the Spurs’ sartorial choice a notable event.

Olynyk’s Gift: Matching Suits for the Team

The suits were a gift from Kelly Olynyk. Olynyk is a 13-year NBA veteran playing his first season in San Antonio. He tapped New York City tailor AMIN for the garments, according to L’Equipe’s Maxime Aubin.

The suits boast a classic double-breasted silhouette, cut trim and tapered through the body. The Spurs paired their suits with matching black dress shirts. Some players wore their jackets open, while others, like Victor Wembanyama, kept things tightly buttoned.

Veterans Choose Ties, Others Opt for Sneakers

An overwhelming majority of the team chose to forgo a tie for the game. Only Bismack Biyombo and Harrison Barnes capped things off with neatly knotted neckwear. Olynyk dressed his down even further by throwing on his signature backwards cap.

Several Spurs paired their suit with sneakers. Rookie guard Dylan Harper revealed that he had not put on a suit since getting drafted in June.

Spurs Triumph Over Trail Blazers

The threatening pregame uniforms seemingly did their job. The Spurs dusted the Blazers in a relatively painless 111-98 win. Wemby supplied 35 points in his first taste of the playoffs.

The game marked the Spurs’ first playoff tilt since 2019. Julian Champagnie’s shimmering chain, sensible handbag, and stylish loafers were seemingly responsible for the victory.

The only questions left are whether Olynyk wants to keep footing the bill. Olynyk has made over $120 million in his basketball career.
