Russian athletes have emerged victorious at the European Trampoline Championships, held in Portiman, Portugal. Alexander Butko and Roman Afanasyev both secured gold medals at the event, which saw participation from nearly 700 athletes representing 29 countries.
Team Success in Double Mini-Trampoline
The Russian team, including Alexander Butko, won the gold medal in the double mini-trampoline team event at the European Championships. The team consisted of Mikhail Yuriev, Timofey Golubenko, Alexander Butko, and Lev Busarev. Russia’s team scored 26 points, ahead of Great Britain and Portugal.
Butko, a graduate of the Vodnik sports school in Nakhodka, reflected on his performance. “It didn’t work out in the individual competition due to an error,” he said. “In the team competition, there was a fight with Great Britain. I managed to execute my combination, which brought our team gold medals in the final round.”
Junior Champion Crowned
Roman Afanasyev also secured a gold medal, winning the European Junior Championships. Afanasyev was part of the Russian team that won the double mini-trampoline team event. The team included Yaroslav Dushchenko, Mikhail Andreiko, Timofey Chigvintsev, and Roman Afanasyev. The Russian team scored 28 points, followed by Great Britain and Spain.
Afanasyev trains at the Temp sports school in Artem, under the guidance of coach Natalia Bystrova.
