Andrey Rublev has secured a place in the Barcelona Open final, his first final of the year. He will face Arthur Fils, who also won his semi-final.
Rublev Overcomes Medjedovic
Rublev beat Serbia’s Hamad Medjedovic 3-6 6-2 6-2 to reach the final. This marks Rublev’s 29th career final. He had lost his past four semi-finals.
Rublev will be aiming to win his first title since beating Britain’s Jack Draper in the Qatar Open final in February 2025.
Fils Battles Past Jodar
Frenchman Arthur Fils beat Spaniard Rafael Jodar 3-6 6-3 6-2. Jodar had knocked out Britain’s Cameron Norrie in the quarter-finals.
Fils acknowledged the difficulty of facing Jodar. “On the TV I don’t think you can see how hard he is hitting,” said Fils. “It took me one set to get used to his quality, and then after I felt better and I finished very strong.”
This victory marks Fils’ 100th on the ATP Tour.
Fils Anticipates a Battle in the Final
Fils is aware of the challenge Rublev presents. “Rublo is a great champion. We had some big battles in the past, so it’s not going to be easy.”
Fils also reflected on the importance of winning a title. “A title is always something different. You can win a lot of matches during a year and still not win a title.”
Final Set for Sunday
