Morgan Gibbs-White: England Call-Up Could Offer ‘Something Different’

Morgan Gibbs-White’s form for Nottingham Forest has led to calls for his inclusion in the England squad. The midfielder has become a key player for Forest since his big-money move from Wolves in 2022, a deal worth up to £42.5 million.

Gibbs-White’s Value to Nottingham Forest

Forest value Gibbs-White highly and would reportedly demand close to double the initial fee from any potential buyers. The club tied the 26-year-old down to a new contract last summer amid interest from Tottenham, indicating their long-term plans for him. Forest hope that Gibbs-White, who has made over 160 appearances for the club, will continue to play a major role.

International Recognition

Gibbs-White has already earned six senior international caps while at Forest. He remains in contention for a place at FIFA’s flagship event this summer. Former England U21 star Lansbury believes Gibbs-White brings a different dimension to the England squad compared to players like Cole Palmer and Phil Foden.

Lansbury said that Gibbs-White is playing well and that there’s every chance he could be selected. He added that Gibbs-White gives something different and has to be involved in the conversation and is quite high up in that conversation considering he’s playing week in week out and in the final four of European competition as well.

Statistical Impact and Upcoming Fixture

Lansbury noted that Gibbs-White has reached double figures in goals this season. He has also created 43 chances in Premier League action. Only Foden, with 45, has created more chances among England hopefuls.

Gibbs-White regularly wears the captain’s armband for Forest and is expected to play a key role in their upcoming match against Burnley. That contest will form part of the ‘Check Your Bally’s’ campaign, raising funds for Testicular Cancer Awareness Month.

European Success

Forest are also celebrating a victory over 10-man Porto in the Europa League. This victory has propelled them into a first continental semi-final in 42 years. A deflected effort from Gibbs-White contributed to the 2-1 aggregate win over the Portuguese side.

Major silverware is still up for grabs in 2026. The club’s ambition is for these kinds of occasions to become a regular occurrence, reminiscent of their past European Cup triumphs.

Forest have provided Gibbs-White with the platform on which to earn six senior international caps.
