Roma Face Pisa Amid Injury Concerns: Gasperini’s Selection Dilemma

Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini will need to utilise his squad depth as Pisa, who are struggling against relegation, visit the Olimpico.

Injury Updates Ahead of Roma vs Pisa

Gasperini provided several injury updates ahead of the match against Pisa. He stated that Gianluca Mancini could return as early as next week, and Wesley is also progressing positively. Paulo Dybala’s situation is less predictable, with a potential return in one or two weeks.

Gasperini acknowledged the impact of long-term injuries on the team’s performance, particularly from the end of December. He mentioned several players who have been out for extended periods, including Evan Ferguson, Leon Bailey, Artem Dovbyk, Dybala and Matias Soule. Tommaso Baldanzi left, so he was no longer an option.

According to Gasperini, it has been a difficult season regarding injuries. He noted that while there haven’t been many muscular problems, there have been unusual circumstances and long-term absences. He also mentioned some players have had to miss the odd game, like Mancini recently, and others have been playing through pain.

Gasperini admitted the team has experienced a slump, partly due to the ongoing injury crisis. The team previously suffered in attack due to so many players being out of action.

Gasperini Defends Player Selection Choices

Gasperini was questioned about the limited playing time for players such as Ghilardi, Vaz, El Aynaoui, and Zaragoza. He responded by saying that he makes choices based on his assessment of the players.

He stated that Ghilardi has played a lot, and Vaz has played more at Roma than at Marseille. Gasperini insisted that everyone in the team has played and is getting game time.

Gasperini also addressed the possibility of El Aynaoui starting, noting he hasn’t played much lately, not since the Africa Cup of Nations.

Roma’s Probable Line-up against Pisa

Gasperini will have to deal without three regular starters for the match against Pisa due to injuries.

Gasperini believes that some players are improving, including the ones mentioned, but if that’s not enough for them, he doesn’t know what to say.
