Robert Lewandowski has given his thoughts on Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, and what it takes to be a top striker. Speaking from Barcelona, the 37-year-old offered his views on the current state of football.
Lewandowski on Kane’s Record Chase
Lewandowski is keeping an eye on Harry Kane at Bayern Munich. The England captain is chasing Lewandowski’s record for most goals in a 34-game Bundesliga season. Kane has 30 goals in 24 games. Lewandowski set the record at 41 goals in 29 games during the 2020/21 season.
Lewandowski is impressed with Kane. “Harry Kane is scoring always so many goals and he’s playing really good and he’s doing a great job,” he said. Lewandowski added, “Because of him, I can be more proud of my record now!”
The Evolution of Strikers
Lewandowski has noticed a shift in football. He believes there’s a move away from individuality and impulsivity. He says there are fewer mavericks now.
“Of course, you have some unique players or different players,” Lewandowski says. “But it’s less than before for sure. From academies you have so many similar players… The way they want to learn, how to play football is like copy and paste. Like the factory.”
Lewandowski believes the world is changing. He points to the different pressures on young players today and the restrictions around their lifestyles. He explains that this isn’t the environment to create elite-level strikers.

Lewandowski is in the 22nd season of his career. He has scored over 700 times for club and country. He has seen trends come and go.
“So many people were thinking that I am so focused on scoring goals that I don’t care about tactics,” he says. He is drawing on his experience in the game.
