The UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals are set to begin. Eight teams remain in contention for the title, needing to secure their place in the semi-finals.

Rivals Clash in Madrid

Real Madrid and Barcelona will meet in the quarter-finals. Barcelona advanced after an undefeated league phase, while Real Madrid overcame Eintracht Frankfurt in the playoffs, finishing seventh in the league.

Barcelona has historically dominated matches between the two sides. Real Madrid will be looking to cause an upset by eliminating one of the title favourites. The only previous encounter saw Barcelona win against Real Madrid.

First Leg in Madrid, Second at Camp Nou

Real Madrid will host the first 90 minutes, with the second leg at Camp Nou. Camp Nou represents a stronghold for Barcelona.

This marks the first time teams from the same city have met in a UEFA women’s competition.

Other Quarter-Final Matchups

Arsenal, the titleholder, has qualified for the quarter-finals for a record 17th time. Chelsea are aiming to progress beyond this stage for the seventh time, maintaining a perfect record at this level. Chelsea has yet to win the title and knocking out the current champions would establish them as serious contenders.

Lyonness and Wolfsburg face off in their twelfth encounter, a major rivalry in the competition. Lyonness has dominated historically, including winning three finals. Wolfsburg, a two-time champion, will aim for a positive result to close the gap on Lyonness’s eight titles.

Manchester United and Bayern Munich will face each other in the quarter-finals. Three former Bayern Munich players are now part of the Manchester United squad, including Lea Schüller.

The UEFA Women’s Champions League can be followed via ESPN Deportes in the United States and TVC in Mexico.
