Marcus Rashford has responded to Manchester United academy player JJ Gabriel, following Barcelona’s La Liga title victory.
Rashford, on loan at Barcelona, received a message from Gabriel after the Catalan side’s win. Gabriel posted “Top” in the comments of Rashford’s celebratory Instagram post.
Gabriel’s Rise and Rashford’s Barcelona Future
Gabriel, at 15 years old, has trained with United’s first team. He has also recorded 27 goal contributions in 26 matches for United’s under-18s, who reached the final of the FA Youth Cup.
Rashford acknowledged Gabriel’s message by stating he is ‘next up’. However, Rashford hopes to make a permanent move to Barcelona.
United reportedly plan to include Gabriel in their pre-season plans, aiming to demonstrate a pathway to the first team.
Rashford’s Desire to Stay in Catalonia
Rashford scored a free kick as Barcelona secured the La Liga championship with a victory over Real Madrid. Since moving to Camp Nou, Rashford has recorded 14 goals and 14 assists this season.
Rashford posted on Instagram: “More than a club, it’s a family! The league champions 2026”, accompanied by images of Barca’s La Liga title parade.
Rashford has expressed his desire to remain in Catalonia. “I came here to win. I want to win as many things as I can and this is one more to add,” he stated after the win over Real Madrid. He added, “This team is going to win so much in the future, too, so being part of that would be special.”
Barcelona’s Financial Considerations
Barcelona have the option to sign Rashford for £26million following his loan spell. The Spanish club are interested in keeping Rashford but a deal depends on their financial situation.
Rashford’s salary has been a sticking point, despite his willingness to reduce his compensation. Barcelona are reportedly open to another loan deal.
Rashford has enjoyed a rejuvenated season since moving to Camp Nou, having fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim last term. The 28-year-old has enjoyed an important role under Hansi Flick.
Rashford hopes to cement a permanent move to Barcelona.
