Randy Orton’s WrestleMania 42 Mystery: Is The Rock Involved?

The build-up to WrestleMania 42 features a mysterious figure linked to Randy Orton. This individual is the person on the other end of Orton’s phone calls. These calls started after Orton betrayed Cody Rhodes, his long-time friend, WrestleMania 42 opponent, and the current Undisputed WWE Champion.

The Rock as a Potential Suspect

The mysterious nature of the caller has sparked speculation about their identity. A prominent candidate is The Rock, a long-time rival of Rhodes. The Rock hasn’t been seen or heard from since Elimination Chamber last year. However, he has a history of targeting Rhodes during WrestleMania season, including their feud leading up to WrestleMania 40 and serving as the catalyst for John Cena turning on Rhodes last year.

WWE Sources Deny Rock’s Involvement

Dave Meltzer discussed the theory of The Rock being Orton’s mystery caller on “Wrestling Observer Radio” after Bryan Alvarez suggested it was him. Meltzer stated that, according to his sources, The Rock is not the person on the other line. Meltzer acknowledged that even if The Rock were involved, it would likely be denied.

Meltzer stated, “Everyone tells me it’s not. But of course, if it is, The Rock’s not going to let anyone know. But within the company, it was pretty much strongly denied to me. But like I said, when it comes to Dwayne, there’s only going to be three people who know. It’s going to be Nick and Paul and Dwayne. And you know, maybe one or two others, but it ain’t going to be, like, a lot of people. So yeah, if he fits, he absolutely fits in the story. But you know, I was absolutely told that it ain’t him.”

According to Meltzer, the only people who would definitively know would be Nick, Paul, and Dwayne, along with perhaps one or two others. He also noted that while The Rock fits the story, he was explicitly told it is not him. (h/t Wrestling Inc. for the transcription)

The identity of Randy Orton’s mystery caller remains unknown, despite speculation and reported denials.
