The Baltimore Orioles secured a 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins on opening day, with Trevor Rogers delivering a stellar performance on the mound.
Rogers Shines in Opening Day Start
Trevor Rogers, fresh off a strong 2025 season, continued his form with seven shutout innings. Rogers allowed only three hits and walked four in front of a sellout crowd at Camden Yards. He induced three double plays and limited Minnesota to 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
Joe Ryan, the Twins’ righty, matched Rogers’ excellence, allowing just one hit and two walks over 5 1/3 innings in his second opening day start.
Seventh-Inning Rally Secures Orioles’ Win
The scoreless deadlock was broken in the seventh inning against the Twins’ bullpen. Samuel Basallo led off with a single off Kody Funderburk. Tyler O’Neill then singled off Justin Topa. Colton Cowser followed with a sacrifice fly, and Blaze Alexander delivered a two-out RBI single up the middle.
The Twins responded in the eighth when Byron Buxton tripled and scored on a fly ball by Luke Keaschall.
Ryan Helsley closed out the game, striking out the side in the ninth. He ended the game by getting pinch hitter Trevor Larnach with a runner on second.
Albernaz Marks Debut with Victory
Craig Albernaz celebrated his managerial debut with the win. Albernaz was hired from Cleveland in October.
- Pete Alonso went 0 for 3 with two strikeouts and a walk in his Orioles debut.
- Alonso signed a five-year contract with Baltimore as a free agent after 126 RBI with the New York Mets last year.
Looking Ahead
The Twins and Orioles will resume their series on Saturday. Taj Bradley is scheduled to start for Minnesota, while Kyle Bradish will pitch for Baltimore.
