OG Anunoby Named to NBA All-Defensive Second Team

OG Anunoby has been named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team. The announcement came just before Game Three of the Western Conference Finals. Knicks fans had campaigned for Anunoby to receive this recognition.

Anunoby’s Defensive Prowess

Anunoby has proven to be one of the most elite and versatile defenders in the league. He disrupts offenses with his rotations, stunts, and deflections. He can guard the opposing team’s point guard, or switch onto the opposing centre, holding his ground and blocking shots.

Anunoby’s statistics reflect his defensive impact. He averaged 1.6 steals per game, ranking 14th among players who averaged 20 or more games. He was also one of three players to average more than 1.6 steals and 0.6 blocks per game. Anunoby also ranked sixth in three-point shots contested per game.

Second Team Selection

The first team consisted of Victor Wembanyama, Rudy Gobert, Ausar Thompson, Chet Holmgren and Derrick White. Anunoby was named to the second team alongside Bam Adebayo, Scottie Barnes, Cason Wallace, and Dyson Daniels. While it is a high honour to be named on the second team, some believe he should have been selected over White.

  • Anunoby averaged 1.6 SPG.
  • He also averaged more than 0.6 BPG.
  • He ranked sixth in the league in three-point shots contested per game.

Knicks’ Defensive Chess Piece

Anunoby is a key defensive player for the Knicks. He allows Mike Brown to mold almost any kind of defense to fit their opponent. This is only the second time he’s made an All-Defensive team. He beat out names like Stephon Castle, Amen Thompson, Draymond Green, Evan Mobley, and Lu Dort to earn his place.

Anunoby has been reliable on defense during the playoffs. He and the Knicks are looking to bring home the most important trophy of them all.
