Nuggets on the Brink as Timberwolves Take Control

The Denver Nuggets entered the NBA playoffs as title contenders, but find themselves on the brink of elimination against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Emotions are running high, with frustration on the Denver side and injuries impacting Minnesota.

Jokic’s Frustration Boils Over

After the Denver Nuggets’ loss on Saturday night, which put them behind 3-1 in the series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Nikola Jokic’s performance was questioned. While Jokic’s numbers appear strong statistically, the Timberwolves’ defense, led by Rudy Gobert, has made life difficult. Jokic is shooting under 40% from the field and 18.5% from 3-point range through four games.

Jokic’s frustration became evident in the final moments of Saturday’s game. Following an uncontested basket by Minnesota’s Jaden McDaniels, Jokic confronted him, leading to a scuffle. Jokic explained his anger stemmed from the fact that “he scored and everybody stopped playing.”

Timberwolves Overcome Key Injuries

The Timberwolves managed to secure a 16-point victory despite losing their starting backcourt to injury. Anthony Edwards exited the game with a knee injury and is expected to be out for a few weeks, missing the remainder of the series. Adding to their woes, Donte DiVincenzo tore his Achilles tendon and is expected to be out until 2027.

Minnesota coach Chris Finch acknowledged the emotional impact of losing Edwards and DiVincenzo. However, Ayo Dosunmu, acquired from the Chicago Bulls, has emerged as a key player for Minnesota. Dosunmu scored 43 points on Saturday, making all five of his 3-point attempts and all 12 of his foul shots, following a 25-point performance in Game 3.

Nuggets Face Elimination

The Nuggets and Timberwolves will face off with Denver facing elimination. The game is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. on NBC/Peacock. The key questions are whether Jokic can rediscover his shooting form and if Minnesota can overcome the absence of Edwards and DiVincenzo.

Jokic stated they have been in this situation before. He added that the most important thing is the next game.
