Nebraska Huskers One Win Away From College World Series

The No. 1 Nebraska softball team secured an 8-1 victory over the No. 15 Oklahoma State Cowgirls in the opening game of the NCAA Lincoln Super Regional on Friday evening at Bowlin Stadium.

With this win, the Huskers’ season record improves to 50-6, marked by a program-record 25-game winning streak. This season is the fourth in school history where the team has achieved 50 wins. Nebraska is now just one win away from reaching the Women’s College World Series, a feat they haven’t accomplished since 2013.

Farrell’s Power Hitting Leads the Way

Jesse Farrell led the Husker attack, racking up five RBI from two hits, including a home run. Ava Kuszak, Kacie Hoffmann and Bella Bacon each contributed an RBI, while Kuszak and Samantha Bland added doubles. Jordy Frahm and Hannah Camenzind both had two hits.

Frahm (20-4) also claimed the win in the circle, pitching a complete game. She allowed only one run on five hits and recorded seven strikeouts.

Weather Delay and Early Scoring

The game was initially scheduled for Thursday night but was suspended due to weather after the top half of the first inning and two batters into the second. When play resumed on Friday afternoon, Nebraska had Hannah Coor on first with one out.

H. Camenzind singled, placing two runners on base. Farrell then hit a three-run home run to give Nebraska a 3-0 lead.

Huskers Extend Their Lead

In the bottom of the third, H. Camenzind walked and Kuszak doubled, putting runners in scoring position. Farrell singled, bringing both runners home. Bland then doubled, once again putting two runners in scoring position. Farrell scored on a Hoffmann groundout, and Bland scored on a Bacon groundout, increasing the lead to 7-0.

OSU scored its only run of the game with a solo home run in the top of the sixth.

Nebraska finalised the score in the bottom of the sixth. Frahm singled, advanced to second on a Coor walk, and then to third on a H. Camenzind single. She then scored on a Kuszak sacrifice fly to right field.

The Huskers will face the Cowgirls again on May 23. The game will be televised on ESPN and broadcast on the Huskers Radio Network or on B107.3 FM.
