Moses Moody Injured in Warriors’ Overtime Win Against Mavericks

Moses Moody suffered a left knee injury in the Golden State Warriors’ 137-131 overtime win against the Dallas Mavericks. The injury occurred late in the game on Monday night. Moody needed a stretcher to exit the court.

Moody’s Injury Details

With 1:13 remaining in overtime, Moody stole the ball from Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg. As Moody went up for a dunk, his left knee buckled as he planted, sending him sprawling to the floor. Play continued for several seconds as Moody remained down near the Warriors’ bench. Teammates, staff and trainers gathered around Moody after the next whistle to check on him. Arena workers brought out a stretcher, and the game was stopped for several minutes.

Draymond Green hugged and patted Moody before he was wheeled off. Stephen Curry reacted with disbelief on the bench. Moody received an X-ray after the game as the medical staff tries to determine the exact severity of the injury, but it’s believed to be serious. Steve Kerr, the Warriors’ coach, said they don’t know what it is, but it sure looked bad and that they are hoping for the best.

Moody’s Return and Performance

Moody had recently returned from a right wrist sprain, which caused him to miss the previous 10 games. Against the Mavericks, he scored 23 points and had three steals, bothering Flagg for much of the second half.

Kerr praised Moody as a great human being, teammate, and player to coach. He said Moody puts in the work every day and was brilliant during the game.

Warriors’ Injury Woes

Moody’s injury is the latest in a series of injuries affecting the Warriors, overshadowing a needed road win. Veteran wing Jimmy Butler previously suffered a torn ACL. Butler injured it on a similarly awkward landing in a home loss to the Miami Heat in early January, needing teammates and eventually a wheelchair to get him out of the arena.

Curry has missed the past 22 games because of his own persistent right knee issue. Al Horford is currently out because of a calf strain. The Warriors’ record stands at 34-38, as they struggle to survive at the bottom of the Western Conference play-in bracket.

Moody’s Season and Contract

  • Moody is in his fifth season.
  • He is averaging a career-high 11.9 points.
  • He has started in 49 of the 60 games in which he has appeared.
  • He is in the first year of a three-year, $39 million contract extension he signed prior to his fourth season.

Moody will fly back to the Bay Area with the team and get an MRI on Tuesday.
