Morgantown Gears Up for NCAA Baseball Regional Tournament

Morgantown is set to host the NCAA Baseball Regional, prompting excitement from tourism officials. Visit Mountaineer Country Convention and Visitor’s Bureau are utilising a strategy similar to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Regional held earlier this year.

Community Welcomes Baseball Fans

Hannah Winnaught, CVB Communications Director, noted the similarities in planning to the basketball event. She spoke on WAJR’s “Talk of the Town” about the community’s readiness.

Tickets for the games are sold out. Winnaught mentioned that fans might find tickets through secondary ticket brokers online.

The event is anticipated to bring thousands of people to Granville. The ballpark has a capacity of 2,500, plus standing room.

Traffic and Preparations

Residents are advised to anticipate increased traffic in the Granville area. Emmett Drive will remain closed due to a slip. Alternative routes in and around Granville are expected to be busier.

Winnaught suggested residents factor potential stops before and after games into their travel plans. She acknowledged likely congestion and advised allowing extra travel time.

Hotel Capacity Boost

Unlike the previous NCAA event, local hotels can accommodate all four teams. During the basketball regional, one team had to stay outside the area.

Winnaught expressed delight that all teams could be hosted in Monongalia County. She acknowledged some fans might still need to find accommodation elsewhere.

First Impressions of West Virginia

Winnaught emphasised the role of residents and businesses in shaping visitors’ experiences. She stated that sports events often provide people’s first impression of West Virginia.

Match Schedule

  • West Virginia will play Binghamton Friday evening at 5 o’clock.
  • Wake Forest and Kentucky will battle at noon Friday at Kendrick Family Ballpark.

“We are very fortunate to be able to host something like this,” Winnaught said.
