Mo Williams Joins Kentucky Basketball Coaching Staff

Kentucky Basketball has made a significant addition to their coaching staff. Mo Williams, previously the head coach at Jackson State, is set to become an assistant coach under Mark Pope.

Father and Son Join Kentucky

This news arrives shortly after Williams’ son, Mason Williams, committed to Kentucky. Mason Williams is a 4-star point guard in the class of 2026. It appears to be a package deal.

Williams’ Playing and Coaching Career

Before coaching, Williams had a successful career as a player. He was a standout at Alabama from 2001-03 before entering the NBA Draft. Williams enjoyed a 13-year NBA career, including an NBA Championship with the 2015-16 Cleveland Cavaliers. He was also an NBA All-Star in the 2008-09 season.

After retiring following the 2015-16 season, Williams transitioned into coaching. He became an assistant coach at Cal State Northridge (2018-20), then the head coach at Alabama State (2020-22). He then took the head coach position at Jackson State, a role he has held since the 2022-23 campaign.
