The Chinese Grand Prix was an eventful one, particularly for McLaren, with both their cars encountering significant problems before the race even began.
McLaren’s Pre-Race Problems
Lando Norris failed to make it to the grid. The team was working on an issue in the garage. Oscar Piastri was pushed into the pit lane prior to the formation lap.
The McLaren pair were not the only ones unable to start the race, with Audi’s Gabriel Bortoleto and Williams’ Alex Albon also unable to participate.
Hamilton’s Strong Start
Lewis Hamilton made an impressive start to the Chinese Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver overtook polesitter Kimi Antonelli to grab the lead. It was a lightning launch from P3 on the grid for Hamilton.
Behind them Leclerc also made a good getaway to move up into third.
Other Incidents on the Opening Lap
Further back Haas’ Ollie Bearman enjoyed a close battle with Isack Hadjar. The Red Bull spun off the track.
