Max Verstappen Deal ‘on the Table’ in F1 Move That Would Rock Sport

The future of Max Verstappen has become a talking point, with an offer potentially ‘on the table’. This twist could rock Formula 1.

Verstappen Linked With Mercedes Move

Heading into the 2026 season, the future of Verstappen has been a major talking point. Verstappen has been linked with a move away due to Red Bull’s form in the back end of the 2024 season and last year.

The likes of Mercedes, Aston Martin and even Williams have all been linked with the 28-year-old.

However, Verstappen committed his future to Red Bull and produced a recovery drive from P20 to finish P6 at last weekend’s Australian Grand Prix.

Speculation Fueled by Russell’s Shorter Deal

Recently, F1 commentator Mark Gallagher claimed that there could be an offer on the table for Verstappen to join Mercedes. He also stated that George Russell’s deal would not have an impact in Toto Wolff’s desire to sign the Dutchman.

He said: “I think the speculation is driven by several factors. First of all, the media love to speculate. Secondly, when you see someone like George Russell on a shorter-term arrangement at Mercedes, you can only assume there may be something on the table for Max if the Red Bull proves uncompetitive this year.

“For me, Max is the most complete driver in Formula One. The fact that he lost the championship by just two points to Lando is incredible, especially considering he didn’t always have the fastest car.”

Verstappen’s Formidable Performance

Gallagher added: “He delivered extraordinary performances on so many occasions and really knocked it out of the park last year on so many occasions last year and didn’t even have the fastest car, and all of the rest of it.

“He is a formidable competitor, and he will squeeze absolutely everything from that Red Bull. I must say, the car looks purposeful. If a car goes as well as it looks, then it could be very interesting.”

Verstappen will be back in action this weekend as the 2026 F1 calendar continues with the Chinese Grand Prix, taking place around the Shanghai International Circuit.
