As Ukrainian tennis star Marta Kostyuk prepares for her first Wimbledon semifinals, her husband, George Kyzymenko, is present to offer his support. Kostyuk, aged 24, and Kyzymenko, aged 29, married in 2023.
Early Connections and Reconnection
Marta Kostyuk and George Kyzymenko’s relationship spans back to their childhood. Kostyuk explained that she met her husband George when she was four years old, with both practicing in the same club in Ukraine. Their paths diverged during their younger years, as Kyzymenko went to the US to study, and Kostyuk began playing professionally.
The couple reconnected in October 2022 when Kostyuk returned to her home country. Following their reconnection, George proposed five months later, leading to their marriage.
A Cypriot Wedding with Technical Attire
The wedding ceremony for Marta Kostyuk and George Kyzymenko took place in Cyprus in 2023. For their outfits, they collaborated closely with Joelle Michaeloff, who is Wilson’s head of design.
Michaeloff detailed the process for Kostyuk’s dress, stating she initially presented 12 different options, including quick pencil sketches and ideas around various necklines, skirt types, strap types, and materials. Eventually, a dress was created by combining elements from sketches of three different designs, with Marta trusting Michaeloff’s vision.
The design focused on ease and functionality. Michaeloff highlighted that the under-bodice featured a built-in shelf prop, similar to Wilson’s tennis dresses, making everything integrated. This technical aspect meant Kostyuk could even jump in the ocean in the dress if she wished. The garment was made from a highly technical Italian fabric with a slight shimmer, designed to hug and fit her body like something she could wear to play a match.
