The Seattle Mariners have made changes to their roster, recalling Alex Hoppe and designating Casey Legumina for assignment.
Hoppe Gets His Chance
Alex Hoppe, a right-hander, has been recalled from Triple-A Tacoma. The 27-year-old Hoppe has yet to feature in a major league game. This season, he has played eight games for Tacoma, allowing one unearned run and recording 12 strikeouts against three walks across eight innings.
Hoppe was acquired by the Mariners on 18 November, 2025, in a trade with the Boston Red Sox. The Mariners gave up minor league catcher Luke Heyman to acquire Hoppe. A former sixth-round pick, Hoppe has a 7-14 record with a 4.55 ERA, 91 walks and 215 strikeouts in 131 career relief appearances across four minor league seasons with the Red Sox and Mariners.
Legumina Designated After Loss
Casey Legumina, a right-hander, has been designated for assignment. Legumina, 28, made eight appearances for Seattle this season. He went 0-1 with a 4.63 ERA, three walks and nine strikeouts.
During Monday night’s 6-4 loss to the Athletics, Legumina gave up three runs and took the loss.
Legumina was an eighth-round pick in the 2019 MLB draft. He has played in 73 major league games, going 5-7 with a 5.83 ERA, 39 walks and 82 strikeouts across 83 1/3 innings.
Looking Ahead
The Mariners will be hoping that Hoppe can strengthen their pitching options following Legumina’s departure.
