Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has been filmed appearing to have a heated altercation during the Euroleague Basketball final in Athens on Sunday.
Marinakis, who also owns Olympiakos, was at the event to watch the Olympiakos basketball team’s 92-85 win over Real Madrid.
Footage Emerges of Altercation
Footage from the event, shared on social media, appears to show Marinakis wearing a ripped shirt and arguing in the stands while being separated by a barrier and security personnel.
The video does not show the person with whom Marinakis is arguing.
Greek media are reporting it to be Grigoris Dimitriadis, who is a former close advisor to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Forest’s Recent Season
Marinakis has overseen a rollercoaster season at the City Ground.
Forest drew 1-1 with Bournemouth on the final day of the Premier League season on Sunday as the club secured a 16th-placed finish.
They also reached the semi-finals of the Europa League before a 4-1 aggregate defeat by eventual winners Aston Villa.
Marinakis’s Previous Bans and Fines
In 2024, Marinakis was found guilty of improper conduct and handed a five-game stadium ban for spitting on the floor as match officials walked past following Forest’s 1-0 Premier League defeat by Fulham.
Three months later, he was a central character in what the Football Association (FA) called “an attack on the integrity of a match official on an unparalleled scale” after a Forest social media post made about video assistant referee (VAR) Stuart Attwell.
Marinakis said he had “no regrets” speaking about “big mistakes” made by the official, but Forest were fined £750,000 for the post which the FA described as “ill-chosen and irresponsible”.
The club’s official X account called Attwell’s integrity into question after Forest claimed three penalty decisions went against them in a defeat at Everton.
BBC Sport has approached Nottingham Forest for comment.
