The FA Youth Cup final came alive after 40 minutes with a couple of goals.
Samba’s Free-Kick Stuns United
Manchester City have a free-kick 22-yards out and Floyd Samba bends it directly into the top corner.
A brilliant strike put City ahead and the United goalkeeper had no chance.
It was all a bit flat until that stunner from Floyd Samba.
Dad Chris will be very proud of that effort.
Kukonki’s Header Pulls United Level
United hit back immediately through Godwill Kukonki’s towering header and we are all square.
A glorious cross into the box from Jim Thwaites saw Godwill Kukonki get on the end of it to head into the back of the net.
The Manchester City defender slipped and that allowed Kukonki to just nod into the bottom corner.
It comes in front of the travelling United supporters and Kukonki enjoyed celebrating that one.
What a reaction from Manchester United.
City just don’t do enough to stop the ball going into the box.
This game has well and truly woke up.
Godwill Kukonki is an England youth player.
He is very robust and a threat in the air, as he proved.
Midfield Battle and Penalty Claims
Jim Thwaites and Rafe McCormack need to get greater control in midfield for Manchester United.
Thwaites is better on the ball than he has shown so far.
Manchester City are starting to play the game higher up the pitch and United need to push them back.
Rafe McCormack gets himself into the book for a foul on Dante Headley.
JJ Gabriel twists and turns in the box and goes down in the penalty box looking for a penalty but again the referee is having none of it.
Gabriel is also booked for diving.
Claims at both ends but we remain level.
Manchester United get forward and Chido Obi tries to slot into the bottom corner but there’s a big block in there from the City defender.
It’s an extremely important block.
When it comes back to him, I’m just wondering if he’s trying to show the goalkeeper the eyes.
