Manchester United fell to a 2-1 defeat against Leeds United, their first home league defeat under Michael Carrick.
Leeds United’s victory moves them six points clear of the relegation zone with six games remaining.
Carrick Seething Over Martinez Red Card
Michael Carrick expressed his frustration regarding Lisandro Martinez’s red card. Carrick argued that Leny Yoro received a forearm smash to the back of his head in the lead-up to Leeds’ opening goal, questioning why that decision was not overturned. He also disputed that Martinez pulled Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hair.
Manchester United may appeal the red card, which could result in a three-match ban. “I am going to have to discuss it but I think it is a bad decision,” said Carrick.
Simon Stone of BBC Sport reported from Old Trafford that Carrick is seething about the red card decision.
Fernandes’ Reaction to United’s Loss
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes spoke to Sky Sports after the game. “We gave the game away in the first half,” Fernandes stated, criticising the team’s intensity from the start. Fernandes declined to comment directly on the refereeing. “I’m not talking about the referee. If I talk about the referee I’m going to get in very big trouble because the rules are applied differently for everyone. You can see it also in the yellow cards. It’s better that I don’t say anything.”
Fernandes also offered his view on the impact of the result on Man Utd’s season. “It doesn’t change anything that we want to achieve. We know that our aim is to stay in the top four. It’s in ou
Leeds United Celebrate a Famous Victory
Leeds United secured a significant victory against their rivals. The win moves Daniel Farke’s side six points clear of the relegation zone with six games remaining. The performance was described as stellar, especially considering the absence of key players and the fact it was an away game.
The Leeds players and fans celebrated the memorable night. The hair pull incident involving Martinez and Calvert-Lewin added another layer of controversy to the match.
Despite the defeat, Manchester United remain third in the league. Their focus remains on securing a top-four finish.
