Goalkeeper Joe Lumley has completed a free transfer move to Sheffield Wednesday, it was announced today. The 31-year-old departs Bristol City to link up with the Owls in League One for the 2026/27 season.
Lumley initially joined Bristol City in the summer of last year. During his time with the Robins, he made four appearances in the last campaign. This included featuring in the Emirates FA Cup 5-1 victory over Watford.
Return to Hillsborough
This move marks a return to Hillsborough for Lumley, who previously had a short spell with Sheffield Wednesday. Last season, the experienced keeper played two matches for the club on a seven-day emergency loan. He now links back up with Wednesday for the upcoming League One campaign.
With more than 200 EFL appearances already to his name, Lumley brings significant experience to his new side. The opportunity to play week in, week out was highlighted as a key factor in the transfer.

Bristol City Sporting Director James Ellis commented on the transfer, stating: “Joe has been an important part of the goalkeeping group here but having impressed in his short loan at Sheffield Wednesday – and with the opportunity to play week in, week out – this move is best for all parties.”
