Marcos Senesi is likely to leave Bournemouth this summer, with several clubs interested in signing the defender on a free transfer.
Senesi’s representatives have been working to secure his next move after he notified Bournemouth he will not be signing a new deal. Liverpool are reportedly the most likely destination as they look to add to their central defensive options.
Liverpool’s Defensive Needs
Liverpool’s need for defensive reinforcements has been highlighted by Virgil van Dijk’s heavy workload. Van Dijk has already played 49 times this campaign. Ibrahima Konate’s form and Giovanni Leoni’s injury have further stretched Liverpool’s resources.
Chelsea and Man Utd’s Stance
Chelsea and Manchester United had been keeping tabs on Senesi. However, neither club is currently planning to make a move. Manchester United are looking to bolster their backline, but Senesi does not fit the age profile or type of defender they are looking for. A move for Nottingham Forest’s Murillo is more likely for United.
Chelsea are looking to pursue players with more physicality as they re-evaluate their inflated squad ahead of next season.
Other Interested Clubs
Senesi is still expected to remain in England. Juventus and Roma have both passed on the opportunity to sign the Argentina centre-back. Juventus decided he would not be a guaranteed starter. Roma also decided to pass after carrying out due diligence.
Several English clubs have expressed an interest in Senesi. Aston Villa and Everton are among the clubs keen. Tottenham Hotspur are also interested, if they stay in the Premier League.
Senesi has been offered to most of the clubs in contention to play in Europe. He is yet to make a decision on where he goes next. A ruling is expected to be finalised before the end of the season. His wage demands could rule out some interested parties.
