Lionel Messi’s Argentina Welcomed by Kansas City Fans

Argentina supporters gathered along the Berkley Riverfront on Sunday morning to welcome the reigning World Cup champions to their Kansas City hotel.

Early Arrival and Fan Excitement

Some fans arrived long before sunrise to secure a spot near the team’s route. By the time Team Argentina arrived, about 200 fans had gathered outside the hotel. They waved flags, cheered and hoped for a memorable moment with their favourite players.

When the team bus pulled in, the crowd erupted. Fans climbed onto shoulders and held up phones, searching for any angle that would give them a better view of the players as they entered the hotel.

“We have to support Argentina, and it’s exciting to be here,” one fan said. Another supporter declared, “I’m a fan, the number one fan. That’s why.”

Messi’s Presence Boosts World Cup Hopes

Kansas City soccer fans also turned out to welcome one of the sport’s biggest teams as it begins its World Cup title defence. Argentina supporter Caleb Hawkins said, “I think they can, and when you have Messi on your team, you can always win.”

Many fans remained outside the hotel after the team’s arrival. They sang songs and chanted in hopes players might acknowledge them from inside.

“Overload of joy right now in my heart,” said fan Jeremias Caromona.

Significance for Kansas City Soccer

For local supporters, Argentina’s arrival is also a sign of how far soccer has come in Kansas City. Kansas City fan Matt Ricci said, “You see how soccer has just evolved in this city. I think it’s a benchmark for the city.”

The gathering was one of the first major displays of World Cup excitement in Kansas City as fans from around the world begin arriving for the tournament.
